“I was getting mighty tired of looking at the sunsets from the porch anyway.” Tyler began. “I reckon it's about time I went on the scout, and I can think of nothing better than going after those dry-gulching Patterson boys.”
“You mind if I tag along,” asked Elijah. “I have busi-ness in Fort Smith I didn't quite finish up.”
“Sure, no problem.” The rest of the conversation was just a blur to Claudia. All she knew was that Tyler was about to ride out again, leaving her and her son to their own devices. She looked out the window towards the west into the graveyard. An eerie premonition overcame her as she looked at the marker her husband had recently put up. She couldn't help thinking that every man had a time, and that every man had a weakness. Elijah excused himself and followed Joshua outside to set up in the barn. As he left, she heard the soft reassurances of her husband in her ear.
“Everything will be all right, Claudia. No harm will come to me.”
Claudia said nothing as she snuggled up to him under his arm. She just held on to her man a little tighter‚ hoping somehow that things would turn out all right.

Sean Chandler has created a fictional deputy U.S. marshal of the Indian Territory named Tyler Musler. Readers will be transported back to the wild and wooly days of pre-state Oklahoma when the fight between law and outlaw was very real and dangerous. Musler is representative of the black deputies that worked for the Fort Smith federal court under the Judge Isaac C. Parker, known as "The Hanging Judge." These black men did as good a job as any lawmen on the western frontier. Chandler puts his readers right in the action, you can smell the gunsmoke, leather, and fear as it is thick in the air. If you like stories on the Old West you will love Sean Chandler's, Ebony Marshal: Bitter the sequel to Ebony Marshal.

Deputy Tyler Musler takes to his saddle to serve justice for Judge Isaac Parker. Judge Parker has given Deputy Tyler the daunting task of capturing Roy and Orville Patterson. The Patterson boys were two former deputies that decided that operating with outlaws was more profitable then dispensing the law. Tylers task of returning the Patterson boys to Judge Parker seems impossible. The Pattersons know the law and the land like the back of their hand but now they dont respect either one. Indian Territory is dangerous as many families are at war against one another and very protective of their land. Lastly, the unreliable assistance he was given in Deputy Clark Milston and Deputy Otto Bird one sees the Pattersons as family and the other just doesnt want to be on the trail. Will Deputy Tyler bring the Pattersons to justice without losing his own life?
Sean Chandler brings this cowboy western to life by vividly describing the scenery and lifestyle of the cowboy while developing the storyline and characters. The reader will become an honorary deputy riding alongside Tyler as he crosses Indian Territory in search of the bandits. It is obvious that Chandler did a tremendous amount of research to obtain details of Indian Territory (Oklahoma) history along with the language, culture and characteristics of cowboys and Indians. The reader will became quickly enthralled in the action and become one with the gun slinging. If you love westerns or suspense this will be a first-rate change of pace read. Chandler is a pioneer in this genre, wake up and take notice because the Ebony Marshal: Bitter is sizzling!
